Mountain Xpress - Several local WNC bills made appearances in the General Assembly over the past week, including an act to incorporate the town of Swannanoa (SB 553), a bill to allow towing-regulation ordinances to address nonconsensual towing in Asheville (HB 500), and amendments to the Sullivan Act to allow a portion of the city of Asheville’s utility revenues to be spent for sidewalk and street repair resulting from waterline improvements (SB 552), and revisions to the laws governing the Asheville Civil Service Board (SB 556).

GOVERNOR PURDUE TO SPEAK IN WOODFIN THURSDAY | News
NC Governor Beverly Purdue will be speaking at the Crest Center in Woodfin Thursday, March 12th. CIBO, the Council For Independent Business Owners, is hosting the event. Spokesperson for CIBO, Mrs. Patty Beaver, said the event is a ticketed event and that all tickets have been sold.
The Democrat Governor is not expected to give interviews but her speech is about the state of NC.
BUNCOMBE REPUBLICANS GATHERED FOR THEIR CONVENTION | News
On Saturday March 7th the Buncombe County Republican Party held their yearly convention. 106 local Republicans gathered to elect party officers for the next two years.
These officers are -

2nd Vice Chairman: Dwayne Blake
Secretary: Sharlon O’Neal
Treasurer: Dorothea Alderfer
Members-At-Large: Betty Budd, Rick Jenkins, Linda Reese, J.L. Thompson, Don Yelton
Items of Convention business was a change to the BCGOP Structure which added new key leadership positions, all of which are appointed by the Chairman and approved by the Executive Committee: District Coordinators(3), Communications Director, and Membership Director. Changes also included the addition of new clubs including a Veterans Club, Liberty Club, and College/Young Republican clubs.
They also passed, unanimously, a Resolution for State Sovereignty, which will be sent to the NCGOP State Convention for consideration there as well. This resolution reasserts the 10th Amendment in North Carolina.
Congratulations to all officers and members at large.
A special congratulations to Chairman, Dr. Tim Johnson! His leadership skills are impeccable and he has done a fantastic job organizing, bringing in new members, and making the BCGOP website the peoples weapon against the liberal, socialist, Democrats.

REPUBLICAN ACTIVIST ERIC GORNY DOES THE BRAVEHEART AT THE BC COMMISSIONERS MEETING TODAY | News
Everybody's favorite Republican Eric Gorny will dress up like the historical William Wallace better known as Braveheart today at the Buncombe County Commissioners meeting. He plans on giving those Democrat commissioners hell during at the public comment section of the meeting. The fun begins at 4:00PM.
